I'm a teacher, as has come up on our site on occasion, and spend a good portion of my days talking to students about the virtue and value of education. I shave my head because my "fashion," such as it is, is just trying to keep things as low maintenance as possible. But why do I want my look to be low maintenance?
Meaningful Conversation and Meaningful Correction
I can tend to avoid meaningful correction. I recognize their importance, both in theory and in practice, but it isn't something I enjoy in general. This week at school, I got some very direct experience both in the giving and receiving of correction, and it really highlighted how meaningful it can be.
A Tribute To Labor As We Approach Its Day

What I know about myself changes. What my girls know about themselves changes. It should continue to change for all of us too. If it ever becomes set in stone...then you're dead.
Arise And Go: Work Hard
I am constantly told that I need to "grind." To me, that sounds like doing something so repetitive that it wears me down. I don't want to grind, but I do want to work hard. I want to see my vision and drive towards it. I want to learn those lessons. I want to grow into the person who will achieve that goal. To be that person, I have to work hard.
The Year Is Going To Change, I Guess I Should, Too
It has been a different and difficult year for everyone, and full on brutal for a lot of people. The overwhelming consensus, then, seems to be good riddance to 2020. And that's fair enough, but remember, our problems don't magically vanish once the change hits the calendar.
