Meaningful Conversations With Delicious Beverages
The writer experienced inner turmoil and couldn't pinpoint the cause until a conversation with a friend revealed suppressed fears and concerns about leaving his children for vacation. This realization highlighted the need to acknowledge personal emotions and the power of open conversations in gaining clarity and understanding.
Truth is from God and he will share that light however He sees fit, be it a baby in a stroller or a hipster in a coffee shop. We have to be humble enough to receive it from anywhere.
I can tend to avoid meaningful correction. I recognize their importance, both in theory and in practice, but it isn't something I enjoy in general. This week at school, I got some very direct experience both in the giving and receiving of correction, and it really highlighted how meaningful it can be.
We know God is perfect, but that's why it is sometimes shocking to hear about God being jealous. What does that mean? And how can we learn from this jealous love of God for our own relationships?
Most of the things we think of in the holidays are pleasant, but not all. For some people, the holidays are full stressful conversations with people they love, but who they disagree with about incredibly important topics. How in the world are we supposed to navigate these?
Rather than engaging with the other and being challenged by what is different than us, we retreat to groups of people who think and act exactly as we do. We have become so weak in our positions that the mere idea of a someone challenging our beliefs terrifies us. The primary purpose for engagement is, more often than not, to prove that we are right. We might engage with like minded people so they can confirm our beliefs. We engage with people different than us so we can confirm our bias. We do not listen to what people say, but hear trigger words that allow us to deny that person their reason and then push them into a generalization we can judge without feeling guilty.
