Meaningful Conversation In A World Gone Mad(der)

Having a meaningful conversation can be uncomfortable and difficult, even in the best of times. What about now, though? When the world seems to be finding brand new rails to jump off of, and passions are running high, and most of our conversations happen through some kind technology, losing so many of the physical and vocal tells that add nuance and context to our words.

Episode 70 – How Do We Talk To Kids About Racism?

In the midst of the protests after the murder of George Floyd, AJ and Brandon try to figure out how we, as a teacher and as a parent, talk to kids about the difficulties of racism. It's not an easy conversation, and these aren't easy times, but it's an important one to have.

Live Podcast 3 – Secularism vs. Pluralism

In the third and final installment of our live podcast series on meaningful conversation with Kelly Fitzsimmons Burton. This time, we talk about two of the philosophical approaches that define what conversation is allowed in the public square, secularism and pluralism, and their weaknesses. Make sure to keep following Kelly at retphi.com and keep the conversation going with us on Facebook.

Live Podcast 2 – Freedom In The Framework

Kelly joins us for a second live event and a discussion about the relationship between freedom and rules. This go around, we really got into some audience participation. Unfortunately, not all of it got picked up on the mics, but hopefully we restated them well enough to avoid confusion. Give us a listen, let us know what you think of the role of rules in freedom on Facebook, and hopefully join us next month for the final of the three part series!

Live Podcast 1 – Meaningful Conversation

This is our first ever live podcast! Woo-hoo! Obviously, you aren't hearing it live, but next time you still can! Kelly and AJ had a great discussion about what makes a meaningful conversation, and a little bit of conversation about what we can really know. Hopefully, we'll see you at Heroes on February 7th for our second edition!

What you are not about to read here are a list of solutions to solve or bridge these divisions, nor will you find me saying anything about the divisions being false or insincere. What you are about to read, however, is my equally real, sincere, and important concern about the nature of division in our national conversations.
