Meaningful Conversations With Delicious Beverages
Progress is rarely linear. I see it in my own life where I spent three years discerning priesthood and then tried to drop back into my "normal" life from before I went to seminary. With a long enough view, you can see the trend upwards, but in the moment, it seems like a series of quick starts and sudden stops.
There are a lot of great things about teaching a high school theology class, but one of my favorites is being able to hijack lessons with whatever I feel like talking about on a given day. During our last classes of Holy Week, since we don't have class on Good Friday, I decided we needed to take an hour and a half to reflect on what exactly we mean by calling Good Friday good.
I usually come up with stories on the long drive and the ocean has historically fed my creativity. I was excited for this trip. I wanted to get back on the horse. I was somewhere in the middle of nowhere Arizona when it hit me.... I'm content. That made me so angry.
I have lived that life for as long as I remember. I have always had big aspirations, wanted to accomplish big things. Why? Because big equals meaningful. I want my life to matter, just George did.
This is what it means to have a child like faith. It is a not belief, it is knowledge of the fantastic, of the wonderful, the magical. It is finding joy in the presence of that and sharing it with others.
Nearing my 40th birthday, I discusses my habit of undergoing intense self-reflection every 5 years, with a 10th year meltdown. There is solace during these periods in faith, family, conversations with Christian friends and interactions with two long-time friends who provide different perspectives.
Is it just me, or do we focus to much on sin when we think about Baptism? What about the relationships it brings us into?
