I needed to clear the muck in my spirit that was clouding my mind and heart. The only way to do that was to step away from social media and step closer to Christ. I had no control over the muck or how long it would take to clear. I just had to wait (and pray). Then I would wiggle my toes to see if it was clear. When it was, I took a confident first step and found a good path.
Not Everything Should Be Content
There are some risks that go hand in hand with those benefits though. When people respond to our content, we feel good. What happens then is that we stop expressing ourselves and start seeking approval of others. In all honesty, the only person in the world who will be able to identify that change is ourselves. It is an internal shift that steals our happiness.
Shouting Secrets From The Roof Top
There have been some cases where real corruption was exposed. In the good ole days, if someone's secret was exposed they could go to a different town and repeat their offense. Not any more. If your life is corrupt, it will come out and everyone will know about it.
Sometimes The Old Crazy People Are Right
I am probably the last generation that had to consider the "get punched in the mouth" risk before saying something. I'm not sure this was 100% good, but at least it caused us to pause and think (well at least for those of us who didn't like getting punched in the mouth). If we said even half of the things that get said on social media, we would have had a call to order.
Comparison And Envy Of Social Media
I found myself wasting so much time scrolling through tons and tons of pictures and videos of people living their best life, people living the life I want to live, people living a life that I am clearly not. Beyond the numbing feeling that comes from mind numbing scrolling, I found that there was a two step progression that stole my happiness.
Episode 42 – Representation and Monetization
The boys got rolling tonight! After a quick chat about AJ drinking a beer that was a delicious assault on his senses, Brandon talks about his trip to a WNBA game and how cool it was for his daughter to see girls tearing it up. Finally, they started talking about trying to balance the business and community sides of what InkleDeux is all about.
Highlights – Creating You pt 2 – Alison Furno
This is a continuation of our interview with the ladies from Creating You. Today, we move the conversation over to Alison Furno. We follow her path through home schooling and college and into her becoming an entrepreneur. We discuss body image in social media and where she gets her confidence. We wrap up the conversation with discussing women and body image in social media with both Alison and Krista and get their interesting takes on the subject. I'm very thankful they were so open to discussing these topics. I know it can seem like all anyone cares about are women's bodies, but when you working in social media it is a top we just can't avoid. These ladies offered examples and practices to help us navigate that treacherous road.
